Richard Gasquet is up against Alex Dolgopolov in the opening round of the Cincinnati Masters today.
Gasquet looks very strong early on in Montreal and with the draw opening up, the Frenchman's chances looked favourable. However there was not to be a repeat of 2006 when he went all the way to the final as he crashed out in round three, very surprisingly to Nicolas Almagro, a man who normally saves his best for the clay.
Gasquet's draw is a lot tougher this week, today he has the talented and dangerous Dolgopolov and if he gets through that then Kevin Anderson could await, the man who put out Andy Murray in Montreal. And if he does make it through to the last sixteen again then he'll probably be up against the in-form Mardy Fish.
Dolgopolov has been up and down since his stunning quarter-final run at the Australian Open. Suddenly expectations were huge and he had a bit of a lean spell from March onwards but he got back on track a few weeks ago, winning the Umag title. Pushed Tomas Berdych to three sets in Montreal last week and he's one of the most dangerous floaters out there at the moment.
Dolgopolov may be unseeded but he's ranked just eight places below Gasquet so this is one of the toughest first round draws Gasquet could have had. They have played just once before, Gasquet winning in three sets in Nice last year.
