Ricardas Berankis will take on David Goffin on Friday in the quarter-finals of this year’s Geneva Challenger

Ricardas Berankis hasn’t made as much progress as he might have liked this season, but he has an opportunity to finish the season strongly here in Geneva. The Lithuanian is through to the quarter-finals of the Geneva Challenger following back-to-back straight set wins over Clement Reix and Albano Olivetti.

Berankis will meet David Goffin of Belgium in the last eight. Goffin has needed three sets to close out both of his matches here so far, and fatigue could prove to be an issue if this contest goes the distance. He seemed a little baffled after his second set performance in his 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(3) win against Matthias Bachinger in round two, and will be hoping to produce a more focused display on Friday.

Both of these players are young, and capable of upping their game. Still, neither layer necessarily has a huge attacking game just yet, and this contest could go either way. Berankis lacks height compared to many of the game’s big names, and it will be fascinating to see if he adapts his style of play against Goffin, who stands at just 5’ 4”.
