Nadal has hardly been taking things easy after completely the career Grand Slam at the US Open. After just two weeks off the Spaniard was straight back on the tour, honouring his commitments in Bangkok and Tokyo. It paid off with his first indoor title for five years at the Japan Open and he is hot favourite this week in Shanghai.
It has been an incredible year for Nadal and nothing highlights that more than his win-loss record for 2010 which stands at a barely believable 66-8.
Like his compatriot Federer, Wawrinka took a long break after the US Open (where he reached the quarters, beating Andy Murray along the way). However it did not appear to have any effect in his round one match where he outplayed Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-1.
However Nadal has won all six of his previous matches with Wawrinka without dropping a set. The Swiss has come a little closer in the past couple of years, losing 7-6, 7-6 in Miami 2009 and 7-6, 6-3 in Toronto this summer.
