World number one Rafael Nadal faces Paul-Henri Mathieu in Wimbledon's last 16 after struggling through a five set match with Philipp Petzschner.

Nadal dominated Petzschner at the end of the match after allowing it to enter it's fifth set, Nadal winning, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3.

The 2008 Wimbledon champion meets Paul-Henri Mathieu from France in the next round on Monday.

"I've been fighting a lot in the last two matches," Nadal said. "Physically I have a little bit of a problem on my right knee but I have one and a half days to recover before the Mathieu match."

"I am happy to be in the fourth round. For me it is very good news to have had very tough matches and win in the end," Nadal added.

Mathieu battle through a similar five set thriller earlier in the tournament when he faced Mikhail Youzhny. Reaching the fourth round this year matches Mathieu's best showing at Wimbledon, and the Frenchman will be eager to test Nadal's injured knee on Monday.
