Rafael Nadal is up against Gilles Simon on day seven of the US Open.

Nadal's US Open has yet to really catch fire. With Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray all putting in some eye-catching performances, the top seed has been trundling along in bottom gear. He's not dropped a set though and expect to see a more intense Nadal today as the second week approaches.

Simon was ranked well in the top ten two years ago but injuries sent him sliding down and he has not been the same player since. Very fast, the Frenchman is an effective counter-puncher and he came from two sets to one down to defeat Philipp Kohlschreiber in an entertaining second round clash.

However the problem he has today is that he's simply not going to wear down a man who plays with as much topspin as Nadal. The Spaniard is simply going to push Simon back with heavy forehands and run him from side to side until he drops.

He's done it before, winning 6-2, 7-5, 7-5 when they played in the 2009 Australian Open.
