Rafael Nadal will be looking to avenge his 2005 Wimbledon defeat to Gilles Muller when they meet in the third round today.
Muller probably still treasures his shock win over Nadal at Wimbledon six years ago. Back then, Nadal arrived at SW19 fresh off his maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros but was promptly given a grass-court lesson by the big serving Muller.
It was the kind of performance which saw many seasoned experts of the game to predict that the Spaniard would always struggle on grass. Little did they know that he would go on to make the next three finals and win the title twice in the folowing five years.
Muller is a man who has never quite fulfilled his outlandish natural talent. He made a quarter-final at the US Open three years ago but has spent too much of his career down at challenger level for a man who possesses the kind of weapons he has at his disposal.
Currently ranked 92 in the world, he was not expected to reach this stage but Milos Raonic tore a thigh muscle early in the first set of their second round match and had to retire.
Nadal has looked sublime so far, brushing past Michael Russell and Ryan Sweeting in straight sets. Muller's big game should help him keep this one competitive but he will lack the consistency to seriously trouble the defending champion.
Prediction: Nadal in three
