Verdasco hit the heights with his thrilling fightback against David Ferrer in the last round, but does he have the energy and belief that he can test Nadal ?

The problem for the Spaniard is that he played the match of his life against Nadal in the 2009 Australian Open final but still came up second best 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in a five hour classic. Verdasco knows he cannot play any better than that yet Nadal still found a way.

The world number one has won all ten of their matches and destroyed Verdasco for the loss of just one game in April's Monte Carlo final. Verdasco is essentially a very hit and miss player, going from the spectacular to the very mediocre and that just does not cut it against Nadal over five sets.

Both players like to dominate with huge forehands but Nadal's brutal topspin makes his a much heavier ball and it's a much more solid shot defensively. While Verdasco used to have a much more effective serve, Nadal has unleashed a cannon at this tournament and has been pounding down 130mph bullets so he may have the edge in that department too.

Nadal looks set to emulate Federer by reaching the last four without conceding a set.
