Such is his determination for the best possible preparation ahead of Wimbledon that barely 24 hours after lifting the French Open title, Nadal was in London on the grass and preparing ahead of his second round clash with Marcos Daniel.
The Spaniard fully justified his status as the odds on favourite for the title this week, handing out a 6-2, 6-2 drubbing. He has looked unbeatable over the past month and seems to have rediscovered the same aura he had over opponents, two years ago when he did the French Open – Wimbledon double.
Istomin is ranked 72 and has enjoyed two reasonably straightforward wins this week. The Uzbek has a decent serve but is questionable whether he has enough power from the back or moves well enough to trouble Nadal.
Nadal should cruise through in straights to a possible quarter-final with Feliciano Lopez.
