France reached last year's final, losing a close tie 3-2 to Serbia and with a strong side which includes Gael Monfils, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet, Spain will need to be at their best.

Having Nadal will make them overwhelming favourites especially as the tie will be held on clay, at the Plaza de Toros bullfighting arena in Cordoba.

The world number one missed the quarter-final against the United States as he was struggling with injury after Wimbledon but in his absence, Feliciano Lopez and David Ferrer rose to the occasion to stun Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick on their home soil.

Spain have dominated the competition in recent years, winning the title in 2004, 2008 and 2009. There is the fascinating prospect of a final against the Novak Djokovic inspired Serbian side which would provide a fitting end to the 2011 season.
