Rafael Nadal will be looking to book a semi-final place at the Australian Open later today.

Nadal has a crushing head-to-head record against Ferrer, having won eleven of their fourteen matches. Ferrer enjoyed a couple of important wins back in 2007, most notably in the US Open quarters but since then Nadal has figured his compatriot out, dropping just one set against him in seven matches.

Ferrer has begun the year in fine form, winning the Auckland title and he's been his typically feisty self on the way to the quarters here. However surely his run will end on Wednesday night. Nadal knows his game back to front and he was rampant against Marin Cilic on Monday.

Nadal was as respectful as ever in his press conference when asked about the match-up.

“These kind of players is very difficult to play,” he said. “We know each other perfect. He's very good. He's No. 7 or 6 in the world. You are in quarterfinals. In quarterfinals you can't have an easy match.”

“I think he's a fantastic player for a lot of years being in the top positions. That's very difficult to do, and he did. So all the respect for him. I know gonna be a really, really difficult match.”
