Rafael Nadal says he is aiming to improve his first serve at the Miami Masters after struggling for consistency in the Indian Wells final.

Nadal managed to reach the BNP Paribas Open final despite not being at his best all week, having returned to the tour just a few weeks ago after injury. He came close to toppling Djokovic but was eventually outlasted in three sets after afterwards the Spaniard explained that he had really struggled with his first serve in the windy, desert conditions.

"I was too worried about my serve to play my best level from the baseline," Nadal said. "My serve didn't work, I think I served 25 percent of the serves. I can't play with this percentage. Nobody can play with this percentage."

"But for me it was a positive two weeks even if I lost today. I got 600 ranking points and some confidence. But the biggest and the most important thing is I finished the week much better than when I started. That's always a very good feeling, and that's a lot of confidence for the next tournaments starting right now."

Nadal will be going for his first Miami title this week, the only North American Masters Series event he has yet to win. He has made the final several times, losing to Roger Federer in a thrilling five setter way back in 2005 before being denied by Nikolay Davydenko back in 2008.
