Nadal has a semifinal appearance and a quarterfinal appearance for the two recent Masters hard court events.

When it comes to hard court tournaments, Rafael Nadal is title-less in the last year and a half and that drought can no longer be attributed to injury as Nadal went 0 for 2 in Toronto and Cincinnati when he was at his best health-wise.

Nadal lost in Toronto to Andy Murray and Rafa lost in Cincinnati to Marcos Baghdatis and it is really tough to accept Nadal as the second favorite for the US Open this year as a result of those losses.

Nadal's prices are currently drifting in the Flushing Meadows outright winner's market although he can be found no better than +333 (10/3) with SkyBet.  Those might be good odds for Nadal to win his quarter but there's no way they can be recommended as valuable odds to win the whole tournament.

Murray, with his loss in the Cincinnati quarterfinals, has drifted a little bit with Bodog as the Scot is now at +400 (4/1).  The Cincinnati loss shouldn't be taken to mean a lot as Murray had been playing a ton of matches and the loss was probably due to being relatively fatigued.

At +400, Murray is a much better bet than Nadal at +333 and he, Murray, is my recommendation for the US Open title.
