Rafael Nadal is hoping to join the list of players who have won all four grand slam titles by winning the US Open over the next fortnight.

Nadal has enjoyed an outstanding 2010, recapturing his French Open and Wimbledon titles as well as the world number one ranking. The Spaniard is aware that if he wins in New York he may soon present a serious challenge to be the “greatest player of all time.”
However it will probably be the toughest slam for Nadal to win. He is most vulnerable on the fast, US cement particularly against powerful, flat hitters of the ball and in New York he has never been past the semi-finals.

"After a few years I am playing better and better in this tournament, but still the centre court is difficult to play, with more wind than the rest of the grand slams,” he said. "Sometime when you are against the wind, it seems like you are not moving the ball."

However Nadal insisted that his desire to win the US Open would not become all-consuming even if he never manages to succeed at Flushing Meadows.

"I hope I have more chances to play well here and to have the chance to win, but without obsession," Nadal told the press. "I am more than happy with what I have at home, all the tournaments that I have won. It is more than I dreamt five or six years ago, so I am happy for that.”
