Rafael Nadal has refused to blame the absence of regular coach Uncle Toni for his defeats in Toronto and Cincinnati.

Toni Nadal regularly takes a break while Rafa is competing in the summer hard court swing in North America. Former ATP player Francesco Roig fills the gap. However this is usually Rafa's leanest period of the year and some have been suggesting there may be a correlation between Toni's absence and this.

This is something that Rafa vehemently denies. "It doesn't make a difference if Toni's here or not, the thing that make the difference is myself.,” he said. “It's always the same: I have the support of my team, And when I lose, it's my fault. And when I win, it's mine also."

"The biggest work is when you are a kid, that's the more important work for the coach. You know what you have to do now. The coach can help you in few things for moments, but doesn't change a lot."

Toni arrives on Wednesday in time for the US Open. Rafa took a few days off after his quarter-final loss to Marcos Baghdatis last week and is beginning some litting hitting ahead of the year's final grand slam.
