Rafael Nadal has played down the growing comparisons between him and Roger Federer.

Nadal memorably claimed his first US Open title on Monday and with it the career Grand Slam, sparking off intense debate about who is now the greater player of all time. Nadal also has an Olympic gold medal in singles to his name and has won more ATP Masters 1000 titles than any other player in history. Some feel that his achievements and head-to-head record against Federer already make him the GOAT even though the Swiss has won seven more slams to date.

However Nadal was quick to rubbish these suggestions. "The titles say he's much better than me, so that's true at the moment," he said. "I think it will be true all my life. For me, always Roger was an example, especially because he improved his tennis I think during all his career, and that's a good thing that you can copy.”

"So I try to copy this and I know Roger and me are different, much different styles. Being better than Roger - I don't think it's the right moment to talk about that."

Nadal's next aim is to finally win the ATP World Finals, the only big title in the game he is yet to win.
