Nadal faced Ljubicic on Monday for the right to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2011 French Open.
Rafael Nadal and Ivan Ljubicic met in the fourth round of the 2011 French Open on Monday with Nadal looking to book his spot in the quarterfinals for the Grand Slam event.
Ljubicic entered the match with a couple career victories over Nadal however neither of those wins had come on the clay court surface. As a result of that most were expecting Nadal to advance in straight sets and that's what the world number one did as he sent Ljubicic off following a 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Nadal is into the quarterfinals for the sixth time in his career at the clay court Slam and each time he has made it this far he has come away the champion. The only time he has failed to win Roland Garros was in 2009 when Robin Soderling knocked Nadal out in the fourth round.
Next up for Nadal will be either Gilles Simon or Soderling with the Swede, at time of writing, leading Simon 2 sets to love in their fourth round match.
Nadal seemed to be troubled in the opening round at Roland Garros but he has had a couple easy matches in the third and fourth round to work his problems out. He is as dangerous as ever at the French Open with Novak Djokovic the most threatening opponent remaining in the tournament.
