You would have to been crazy to bet Rafael Nadal at this point to win a Grand Slam.

When you look at Raphael Nadal's odds in the futures market for the 2010 French Open, you have to wonder why his odds are so short.  The obvious reason is because he won the French Open 4 times between 2005 and 2008 but he is not playing the same as he once was.

One of the better prices for Nadal to win the French Open is with Paddy Power where he is priced at -137 (about 5/7).  However if you take that price, then you are simply betting on Nadal's ghost, not his current form.

While the French Open is still 5 months away, instead of assuming that Nadal is going to be back on form, you should wait, watch, and react.  If he looks on form in the clay court events leading up to the French, then he could be bet, but you would still need odds much longer than -137 (try +400?).

With Nadal slumping and Federer not so dominant anymore, the French Open could produce a first time champion in 2010.

Juan Martin Del Potro (+550, 11/2; Paddy Power), Robin Soderling (+5000, 50/1; SkyBet), and Gael Monfils (+5000, 50/1; Stan James) are players that have gone deep in the Slam before and their prices do have value.
