Nadal has the shortest odds to win in Rome with Betfair.
The best tennis players in the world are flocking to Rome to contest the 2010 Rome Masters, a clay court tournament that is part of the Masters Series 1000 event. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are both part of the field at this point while Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Roddick will both be missing in action.
There are not a lot of betting lines open yet but at this point Betfair have their odds up and Rafael Nadal is their favorite:
Rafael Nadal in the outright winner's market: -145 (about 5/7).
Nadal is the defending champion in Rome as he took down the prestigious clay court title last year by defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final. Besides winning last year, Nadal is a heavy favorite because of his recent Masters Series 1000 title in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
This is a volatile market at the moment with slight changes occuring every few minutes but -145 on Nadal is not a bad price to bet. Roger Federer will be in the field (he had skipped Monte Carlo) but he did not look like a threat in the American hardcourt tournaments in California and Florida and that makes him a questionable second favorite at +500 (5/1). Perhaps the biggest threat to Nadal is Robin Soderling (+2100, 21/1) who has made the final of the ATP Barcelona event where he will face Fernando Verdasco.
However Soderling is not the best conditioned player on tour and he frequently fades after going deep into draws. With all the tennis Soderling has played to make the ATP Barcelona event and with the field deep in Rome, Soderling, should he face Nadal, will be unlikely to beat him.
In this tournament it is either Nadal at -145 or Novak Djokovic at +1200 (12/1).
