Fifth seed Florian Mayer could be in danger against Radek Stepanek at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors on Wednesday.
This is a fascinating second round clash as both players have enjoyed fine starts to the season. Stepanek is a former world number eight and everyone knows that on his day the Czech is far, far better than his current ranking of 63. Particularly dangerous on the faster surfaces he will be eyeing the upset here after smoothly seeing off qualifier Stefan Koubek 6-3, 6-2 in round one.
Mayer is most adept on medium paced hard courts and he reached the Auckland semi-finals a few weeks ago and knocked out Nikolay Davydenko at the Australian Open. However he struggled to adjust to the fast paced indoor hard of Zagreb in his first match, only narrowly sneaking past wildcard Franco Skugor in a final set tiebreak.
They played at the start of last month in Brisbane and Stepanek won easily 6-3, 6-3 that day and on a much faster surface he will feel he has Mayer's number.
