No. 8 seed Polona Hercog will meet Olga Govortsova in the quarter-finals of the WTA Monterrey Open

Polona Hercog has lived up to her billing as the eighth seed this week, and is now preparing for a quarter-final clash against Olga Govortsova. The world No. 62 has played well so far in Monterrey, and showed plenty of resilience in round two to see off the challenge of Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in three sets (6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2).

Govortsova is yet to face a seeded opponent this week, and this looks set to be her toughest challenge so far. She did well to eliminate Alla Kudryavtseva in round two though (6-3, 4-6, 6-0). Kudryavtseva had thrashed No. 3 seed Aravane Rezai in round one, and appeared to be a dark horse here in Monterrey.

This will be the first official WTA meeting between Hercog and Govortsova, making the result a little more difficult to predict. Hercog is expected to have a slight edge, but this contest promises to be a close one.
