Polona Hercog and Anabel Medina Garrigues will meet on Sunday in the final of the WTA Palermo Open

Polona Hercog’s recent form has been eye-catching, and she currently stands just one win away from a second consecutive WTA title. The Slovenian won the first WTA title of her career just last week, and right now it looks like she could well be destined for big things. After thrashing Klara Zakopalova in the quarter-finals, she proved once again why she belongs in the final by sweeping aside Flavia Pennetta in straight sets in the final four (6-2, 6-2).

Hercog’s opponent in the final will be fifth seed Anabel Medina Garrigues. Medina Garrigues has only lost one set this week, and should be feeling confident ahead of this clash. The 28 year-old has already won one title this year, and at this rate it seems like she could threaten to break into the top twenty by the end of the season.

This will be the first competitive matchup between Hercog and Medina Garrigues, and it promises to be a close battle. Only one player sits between them in the rankings, and they’re both playing superbly here in Palermo. Hercog’s recent form is perhaps more impressive than Medina Garrigues’s, but the Spaniard’s experience at this level could also be a decisive factor.
