Fans of Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will have to wait another month to see the Czech back in action.

Kvitova stunned the tennis world earlier this month by scything through the Wimbledon draw to claim her first Grand Slam title. Many wondered how the tall, blonde left-hander would cope with the pressure against the vastly experienced Maria Sharapova in the final but Kvitova simply tore the Russian apart in straight sets.

Afterwards she revealed she had been competing under painkillers during the tournament after suffering a leg injury and pulled out of this week's clay-court event in Bad Gastein.

Kvitova will next be in action at the Rogers Cup which begins on August 8th. One of the tour's mandatory WTA Premier events, all of the top 40 in the world will be competing as the action heats up ahead of the US Open.

Kvitova suffered a dip after her exploits at Wimbledon in 2010 (she reached the semis, losing to eventual winner Serena Williams), losing five straight matches on her return but she's a much more reliable competitor now and the fast paced cement of New York should suit her game a treat.
