Federer failed to defend his Basel title but it takes more than the likes of Julien Benneteau to knock him out.

Roger Federer's premier this year at the BNP Paribas Masters will be a second round match against France's Julien Benneteau. 

Here are the odds for each player to win the match:

Federer: -5000 (1/50)

The bet365 sportsbook clearly does not want any money put on Federer in this match and there is good reason why.  Benneteau is ranked 49th in the world and Federer just doesn't lose to players who are ranked that low at this point in his career.  Maybe that makes betting Federer sound like a good idea, but having to bet $50 just to profit $1 probably isn't going to appeal to too many people.

Benneteau also has a really questionable loss in his recent history as he lost in two relatively uncompetitive sets in Basel last week to Jarkko Nieminen, the 122nd ranked player in the world (at the time).  The only convincing victory that even remotely suggests that Benneteau might defeat Federer is the fact that he, Benneteau, beat Davydenko on tour this year.  However that was back in Rotterdam and Davydenko, good as he is, is far more likely to drop a bad loss than Federer is.
