Things that have changed in recent Wimbledon Championships history include a retractable roof and video review. Something that stays the same: Venus Williams and Serena Williams are the women to beat.

Venus has won five titles, including the last two, at Wimbledon, which begins today. Serena has won this Grand Slam tournament twice, beating Venus in the 2002 and 2003 finals and losing to her in last year’s final.

Martina Hingis, Justine Henin, Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo, all came and went whilst the Williams Sisters remain. One or the other, or both, have participated in eight of the last nine Wimbledon finals, and they’re the top picks of British oddsmakers this time.

Venus Williams is available at odds of 10/3 from Skybet, whilst Serena Williams is available at odds of 9/4 from Victor Chandler.

“Serena and I, we often talk about that, we’re still here and we’re not leaving,” No. 3-seeded Venus said Sunday, two days before she’ll play Stefanie Voegele in her opening match.

Second-seeded, but favourite with bookmakers, Serena starts on the first day against Neuza Silva.
