Novak Djokovic plays Tomas Berdych on day three of Serbia's Davis Cup semi-final against the Czech Republic.

Djokovic was forced to pull out of the opening singles rubber with gastroenteritis on day one but returned to the fray in Saturday's doubles. However it made little difference as the Czech pair of Berdych and Radek Stepanek swept to a four set victory to take a crucial 2-1 lead going into the final day.

This leaves the enticing prospect of Djokovic needing to beat Berdych in the first of the reverse singles rubbers to keep the tie alive. Since Wimbledon, the two have had contrasting summers. Djokovic's form steadily improved before he came alive at the US Open, by far his best slam since the 2008 Aussie Open.

In contrast while Berdych shone during the first six months, reaching the final of Wimbledon and Miami and the semis of Roland Garros, his game tail-dived on the hard courts and he crashed out in round one at Flushing Meadows.

He had a golden chance to put the Czechs 2-0 up on the first day but was outplayed by an inspired Janko Tipsarevic.

Djokovic leads 2-1 on the head-to-head winning their first two matches but when they met in the Wimbledon semi-finals this summer, he was soundly outplayed 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. Djokovic is still hurting from that loss and he will be desperate for revenge.
