Novak Djokovic aims to reach the US Open third round when he faces Philipp Petzschner later tonight.

Djokovic is fortunate to have secured a night match slot as the intense heat in New York is not boding well for his chances. The Serb has struggled in hot conditions throughout his career and he will be hoping the hurricane which is sweeping up the East coast will bring cooler weather.

Djokovic was pushed to the brink in round one against Viktor Troicki in temperatures that broke the 100 degree mark and had to come from two sets to one down to win 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in nearly four hours.  

Petzschner cruised past Czech Dusan Lojda 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 and the fast conditions should suit his aggressive serve-volley game. However he did not have any success in the warm-up events, losing in Cincinnati and Toronto at the first hurdle.

In cooler conditions, Djokovic should enjoy a more straightforward path to the last 32.
