Novak Djokovic looks to book a quarter-final place at the Montreal Masters when he plays Croatia's Ivan Dodig.
Djokovic was left breathing a mighty sigh of relief after recovering from a double break down to defeat Nikolay Davydenko 7-5, 6-1 in the second round of the Montreal Masters. There's been plenty close tussles between the duo in the past and Davydenko looked right up for the challenge as he stormed to a 4-1 lead. However it was all downhill from there for the Russian as he won just two more games.
“He didn't give me a lot of rhythm in the start of the match,” Djokovic said. “I didn't play a match for four weeks. It took me some time to get used to the conditions, get into the match. I needed to hang in there. I needed to wait for the chances. I did. I turned the match around on 4-1 when I broke him the first time. Then I felt much more comfortable.”
It's been a difficult start for the top players with Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray already out and Djokovic will need to start far better than that over the next few days if he's to avoid the same fate as his rivals.
He will be quietly relieved not to be facing former US Open champ Juan Martin Del Potro today after Cilic disposed of the Argentine 6-3, 6-4. It was a tight match, just two well taken break points from Cilic proving the difference and the big Croatian finally looks back on song again.
However Djokovic has had few problems against Cilic in the past winning all five of their career matches. They clashed in a crucial Davis Cup tie last year and Djokovic stepped up a few gears to win comfortably 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. He will be looking to do so again.
