Novak Djokovic up against former champion Lleyton Hewitt in the fourth round at Wimbledon
Lleyton Hewitt may be only twenty-nine years old, but he’s the oldest player left in the Wimbledon draw, and will be hoping that his experience can enable him to overcome Novak Djokovic in today’s fourth round clash.
Hewitt won the title at Wimbledon back in 2002, where he defeated David Nalbandian in the final. Whilst he isn’t fancied to repeat the feat, his recent form makes it clear that he’s not somebody that anyone will be seriously looking forward to playing against this week. Hewitt has a great record on grass courts, and began this year’s grass court season with a bang by beating Roger Federer in the final at the Gerry Weber Open. There’s a chance that he’ll go even further in this tournament.
However, Djokovic will provide him with a serious test. Djokovic defeated Hewitt at Wimbledon three years ago, and has made it to the quarterfinals of the previous four Grand Slams. He goes into this match as the favourite, and he will be doing as much as possible to ensure that he seriously challenges for this year’s title.
This could be a very significant match, and should be a fascinating one whatever the outcome. Djokovic will probably edge this match out, though Hewitt will be in real contention to win if he repeats his Halle Open form.
