Novak Djokovic takes on Jeremy Chardy in the quarters of the Rogers Cup.

Djokovic produced an assured performance to oust Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. The Serb has never failed to reach the quarters of the Rogers Cup, winning the title on his debut in 2007  but he had to shake off a considerable amount of rust earlier in the week having not competed since Wimbledon.

Chardy has been the surprise package of the week, taking out two top ten players in Nikolay Davydenko and Fernando Verdasco. Chardy stunned Verdasco in round two having looked on the brink of defeat with Verdasco serving for the match but his win over Davydenko could hardly have been more convincing – 6-3, 6-2 in just an hour.

“I'm playing a night match tomorrow against a player who made some upsets in this tournament, so no reason to underestimate my opponent because he's a big server, big hitter,” said Djokovic. “It's gonna be a tough one, but if I continue playing well like I did today, I have a good chance.”

Djokovic will be very confident of progressing as he has won all four of his previous matches against Chardy and beat the Frenchman in the Rome Masters earlier this year.
