Djokovic has raised his game just when he's needed it in the past couple of rounds. He was a class above James Blake on Saturday and then with Mardy Fish predicted to give him a serious challenge in the last 16, Djokovic hit top form leaving Fish helpless to deal with his accurate returning and passing shots.

Monfils has re-invented himself at this tournament as a more attacking player. He has the talent to reach the top ten but his persistence in playing every match from ten feet behind the baseline has limited his potential. It's something which seems to have finally sunk in and it was refreshing to see Monfils taking the ball on and finishing points at the net against Janko Tipsarevic and Richard Gasquet.

Djokovic is the better player on fast surfaces, in particular his backhand is more potent and he's a more consistent returner. Monfils' speed and athleticism have posed plenty of problems in the past but Djokovic has still won all four of their past matches – a five setter at the 2005 US Open, tight matches at the French Open and the Olympics and a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 win at the Paris Masters last November.
