Novak Djokovic was officially honoured for finishing the season as world number one at the ATP World Tour Finals earlier this week.
Djokovic has enjoyed one of the greatest seasons in tennis history, winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon, the US Open and a record five Masters 1000 titles. He began the year with a 42 match winning streak, not losing until the French Open semi-finals where he came up against an inspired Roger Federer.
"It feels fantastic, making history obviously is a big privilege," Djokovic said. "It’s something I always dreamed about, becoming the best in the world, and finishing the year as No. 1 in the world and it’s come true.
"This year has been the best of my life, the best of my career. All my dreams have been realised and I’m just trying to enjoy every single moment of it and this trophy. I was fortunate enough to have a group of people really believing in me, in my qualities, believing that I could be the best one day. It all came down to myself, if I was really able to bring it or not. Especially in the era of Nadal and Federer, who have been so dominant, it makes my success even bigger."
Djokovic has already set his sights on completing the career Grand Slam at Roland Garros next year and after picking up two of the biggest clay-court titles in Rome and Madrid this year, few would bet against him.
