Novak Djokovic goes into today’s Cincinnati Masters final against Andy Murray as overwhelming favourite but the top seed was looking to play that down as he spoke to the press.
“It’s great I’m in another final. It's a great achievement. Tomorrow I'll try to get another title.” said Djokovic, who won his fifth Masters event of the year in Montreal “I hope it’s not going to be too hot and let’s hope for another good match. We have a good rivalry, same age, same generation and it’s nice to play him in a final again.”
The last time these two met on hard courts was in the Australian Open final, one of the defining matches of Djokovic’s season. He had not beaten Murray since 2008 and many were expecting a classic encounter but instead Djokovic was totally dominant as he won in straight sets.
However Djokovic was keen to big up Murray’s chances, perhaps mindful of the fact that he’s been comfortably below his best all week and their match in Rome back in May where Murray came desperately close to an upset before losing in a third set tiebreak.
“This is a surface that he plays well on, I think,” the Serb continued. “We played here finals, two tough sets, and he has won that. So he knows what it takes to win a big match, a big tournament. So there is no favourite tomorrow.”
