Novak Djokovic is full of optimism looking ahead to the 2012 season after enjoying a celebratory party to toast his achievements over the past twelve months.
Djokovic has been enjoying a well deserved two week break from tennis and he capped it all with a rare night of indulgence on the wine to celebrate a season which will go down as one of the greatest of all time.
“It did not end up well the next day, but I did not have a practice so it was a good excuse,” Djokovic joked with reporters. And the world number 1 is currently casting a rose-tinted gaze ahead to 2012. "I think it does not make sense to be anything else than optimistic. I need to believe in my qualities, in my abilities. I need to believe I can repeat this year again. Of course it’s going to be an incredible and a difficult task to achieve, but you never know. Nothing is really impossible.”
Tennis players are a superstitious bunch at the best of times and unsurprisingly, Djokovic will not be changing anything going into the new season.
“I am sticking with the same regime, and my diet and the same way of practicing,” he said. “Nothing has changed. [But] there’s still room for improvement. The game that I have is good enough to be one of the best on all surfaces so I just need to maintain that level and always improve certain strokes in my game by certain percentage.”
Djokovic will begin 2012 with an exhibition in Abu Dhabi which begins on December 29th and could see him face either Rafa Nadal or Roger Federer. Djokovic opens against Gael Monfils.
