Novak Djokovic cruised into the final of the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi with a straight sets annihilation of Roger Federer.
Federer would have been hoping for a better end to 2011 than this. The Swiss looked decidedly abashed after a humiliating 6-2, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Djokovic.
The Serb has spent December practising in the Gulf and after getting a match under his belt on Thursday, he looked far sharper than Federer who shanked the ball all over the match as he lost in under an hour.
"He has won more than 15 matches at the end of 2011 so I'm sure he won't feel down after this loss here," Djokovic said. "His main goal here is to get a couple of matches under his belt, as it is for all of us."
While Djokovic goes on to play David Ferrer in the final, Federer will be hoping to redeem himself in Saturday's third place playoff with Rafael Nadal. The defending champion was also way below his best as he was swept aside 6-3, 6-2 by Ferrer.
