Djokovic is well positioned for the world number 1 and the Australian Open.

Those who aren't backing Andy Murray for the next world number 1 are tipping Novak Djokovic.  Djokovic finished the 2009 season on great form as he won the Paris Masters series 1000 event and he took Roger Federer out of Basel.

Here are his, Djokovic's, odds to win each of the four Grand Slams in 2010:

Australian Open, +600 (6/1), Sportingbet
French Open, +900 (9/1), Stan James
Wimbledon, +1000 (10/1), Sportingbet
US Open, +700 (7/1), Ladbrokes

Djokovic is a threat on all surfaces but his best Slam, historically, has been the Australian Open.  He won that event in 2008 and now that he is playing on top form, he can be expected to threaten for it again.

The long odds at the US Open are also a bit flirty, especially since Djokovic is a former finalist there and a two-time semifinalist so he can be considered for a bet for that event as well.  Normally it is not a wise idea to bet a player 9 months in advance of an event, but Djokovic has played in the main draw of 20 consecutive Slams.  If he does well on the hard courts of Melbourne, his odds for the US Open will surely shorten.

Our recommendation is to take Djokovic for both the Australian Open and the US Open as he is poised to have an incredible year.
