Nikolay Davydenko will take on Nicolas Mahut on Wednesday in round two of the Valencia Open 500You can watch and bet on the ATP Valencia Open from Thursday live for free at bet365Nikolay Davydenko booked his place in the second round of the Valencia Open 500 this week by upsetting fifth seed Gilles Simon in three sets. The result is hardly the biggest surprise, as Davydenko, a former ATP World Tour Finals champion, is one of the tour’s most talented players.
Next up for Davydenko will be Nicolas Mahut of France. Mahut also had to work hard for his berth in the second round, though his match against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez became a one sided affair after he closed out the first set in a tie-breaker (7-6(5), 6-2). Mahut can expect a tougher challenge on Wednesday.
Following victories in 2006 and 2008, Davydenko has a 2-0 head to head record against Mahut. In the four sets played between the pairing, Mahut was bagelled twice, and never managed to win more than four games in any given set.
Davydenko hasn’t been at his best this year, so maybe things won’t be as easy for him this time around. Even so, he should be able to progress.
