This is a fascinating clash between two former top ten players who have fallen on hard times due to injury. Davydenko started the year with many people talking about him as a genuine rival to Federer and Nadal for the slams. However since returning from a wrist injury in June he has been a shadow of his former self.
However he has looked in decent form so far in Valencia, beating Juan Ignacio Chela 7-6, 6-2 to reach the quarters.
Simon was the world number six at the start of 2009 but a combination of injury and form loss have seen him plummet outside the top 50. He's enjoyed a mini-revival this autumn though, winning the Metz title and beating David Nalbandian on the way to last week's Montpellier quarters.
He has been on fire so far this week, destroying third seed Fernando Verdasco 6-1, 6-3 in the second round and he is our pick to make the semi-finals here. He has also enjoyed plenty of success against Davydenko in the past, winning three of their four career matches.
