World No. 10 Nicolas Almagro will take on Sam Querrey for a place in the third round of the Internazionali BNL d’ItaliaYou can watch and bet on the action from the ATP Rome Open at bet365Nicolas Almagro was playing with supreme confidence earlier in the season at the Golden Swing, and should now be looking to reproduce this clay-court form in this week’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The Spaniard made a solid start the competition here, beating Simone Bolelli in round one. He’ll need to rack up a few more wins before we can start talking about him competing for his third ATP title of the season though.
Querrey hasn’t performed as well as he might have liked to this season, and it looks like he’s in for a struggle on Wednesday. The world No. 25 got past Kevin Anderson in round one via an early retirement from the South African. To give Querrey full credit, it did look like he was on course to prevail. If Querrey can rediscover his form here, he could give Almagro a real challenge.
Querrey currently leads his head to head against Almagro 2-0. Following wins in 2010 and 2009. Both victories were comfortable straight setters for the American, but the fact that both matches were played on hard courts rather than clay appears to explain this. Querrey should be competitive, but Almagro is likely to have the upper hand on Wednesday.
