Rafael Nadal has won a sixth French Open title by beating Roger Federer in an action packed finalYou can watch and bet on live streaming tennis at bet365With his place at the top of the rankings under threat, Rafael Nadal has fought off a resilient Roger Federer in the final of the French Open. The Spaniard claimed an historic sixth title here, and will remain the world No. 1, following a 7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 victory on Sunday.
Federer’s run here had been great to watch, but he fell just short at the final hurdle. Having gotten himself into a commanding position in the first set, the world No. 3 allowed Nadal back into the set and fell behind. The second set was a close one, and Nadal’s sharp start in the tie-breaker enabled him to clinch a two set advantage.
With the match seeming to get further out of his reach, Federer rallied back, coming from a break down to push the contest into a fourth set. A failure to take three break points early in the fourth seemed to cause a shift of momentum back in Nadal’s favour though, and Federer’s challenge began to fall apart.
Nadal will now enter Wimbledon in a rich vein of form, and he is arguably the man to beat. He now has ten slams to his name, and it might not be long until he starts to creep up on Federer’s record.
As for the Swiss legend, he proved over the past two week’s that he’s not to be written off, and that his chances of winning another Slam are well and truly alive. With Djokovic and Murray in the picture as well, it looks like the Tour’s return to the grass is going to provide plenty of excitement.
