Andy Murray remains on course to defend his title in Shanghai after beating Stanislas Wawrinka in round threeYou can watch and bet on the action from the ATP Shanghai Open at bet365Andy Murray has been in exceptional form throughout the Asian swing, and he’s moved one step closer to a third consecutive title today by defeating Stanislas Wawrinka in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3). The Scot has now won 22 of his last 23 matches, and is shaping up to be a serious contender at the ATP World Tour Finals.
Murray seemed glad about managing to take back the momentum against Wawrinka in the third set. “I got myself pumped up right at the beginning of the third set," said Murray. "I think it was important. Stan was playing very well.”
“I was trying to control the ball, especially [in the] middle of the second set, I was really struggling. I started dictating a lot of the points with my forehand and trying to get the first strike in 'cause the court is playing very fast. That worked well.”
Murray will next be up against Australian qualifier Matthew Ebden in the quarter-finals. Ebden produced a superb performance to get past Gilles Simon in round three (6-2, 2-6, 7-6(8), but beating Murray could require an almost superhuman effort this week.
