Former Paris Masters champ David Nalbandian has set up a second round clash against Andy Murray following a victory over Marcel GranollersDavid Nalbandian defeated Valencia Open runner-up Marcel Granollers today in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Nalbandian was dominant throughout, and only needed sixty-eight minutes to complete the rout. Despite having a superb week in Valencia, Marcel Granollers was unable to keep up with the Argentine, and fell apart in the second set.
Nalbandian, like many other players here, noted after the match that the courts are particularly quick. This appears to be causing some difficulties, though Nalbandian seemed to be near his best. In a post-match interview, he said, “[I] got in some trouble at the end of the first set, but then I played good. So [I’m] quite happy with this first round”.
Nalbandian will now face Andy Murray in round two. The Scotsman will be the favourite to win this match, but by the looks of it will still need to put in a first rate performance. Murray qualified for the ATP Tour World Finals a long time ago, but is aiming to build up some momentum prior to the end-of-season event.
