Andy Murray made quick-fire progress into the second round of the Valencia Open.
Murray made a little bit of a slow start but it didn’t last for long as he swept aside Spanish wildcard Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-1.
However Murray admitted his game will take a while to fine-tune under the rigors of competition to the level it was at before.
"At first I struggled a bit to get into the match because I had been so long without playing, but gradually I felt more comfortable,” he said. “My goal is to get more rhythm and confidence back in my game."
This has already been a big week for Murray with the news that he’s just signed a lucrative five year kit deal with sportswear giant Adidas. It marks the end of his relationship with the Fred Perry brand, a deal which had lasted since Murray was a junior.
However Fred Perry are small fish compared with Adidas and Murray has reached the big time now, up there with Federer and Nadal and he wants his choice of sponsors to reflect that.
The deal takes place from the start of 2010. Murray will begin the new season with the Hopman Cup.
