Andy Murray began his title defence today in Valencia with a convincing victoryYou can watch ATP World Tour matches live for free at bet365>live streaming>tennisAndy Murray has begun his title defence in Valencia with a solid 6-3, 7-6 victory over Feliciano Lopez. Lopez isn’t the easiest person to be drawn against in a first round match, but Murray showed nerve to win in straight sets, conceding just one point in the second set tie-breaker.
Elsewhere, fourth seed David Ferrer came back from a set down to eliminate Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. Wildcard entrant Pablo Andujar also managed to progress after Dmitry Tursonov retired in the third set of their match earlier in the day. Other notable players to be eliminated include Nicolas Almagro (beaten by Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-4, 3-6, 6-3), Victor Hanescu (lost to Potito Starace 4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Philipp Kohlschreiber (lost to Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2, 3-6, 6-2).
At the time of writing Robin Soderling has just claimed the first set (6-1) against Albert Montanes of Spain. Soderling looks likely to be a major contender for this year’s Valencia Open, despite having struggled in recent weeks to progress beyond the quarter-finals of events.
