Second seed Juan Monaco takes on surprise semi-finalist Joao Souza.
While Fernando Gonzalez has grabbed the headlines, Monaco has been quietly impressive all week and should provide the Chilean with a worthy opponent if they meet in Sunday’s final.
Monaco dispatched former Olympic champion Nicholas Massu in round one and then veteran Juan Ignacio Chela in round two, both in straight sets. He found things a little tougher against the big serving Aussie Peter Luzcak in the quarter-finals, a player who you would not expect to have too much success on the clay with his likings for net forays. However Luczak mixed up his game and unsettled Monaco for a while before the Argentine recovered to win 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Souza came through qualifying and his run this week is completely out of the blue. He beat seventh seed Simon Greul in a final set tiebreak in round one and then defeated veteran Alberto Martin 6-2, 6-4 in the quarters.
Monaco is a very heavy 1/6 favourite with sporting bet while Souza is 5/1 with Boylesports
