Fernando Gonzalez crushed his first round opponent in just 59 minutes at the Movistar Open on Tuesday.

It was a brilliant performance from Gonzalez who made light of the transition from hard courts back to clay.

He is expecting to need to move up a gear against Spain’s Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo though. After his win Gonzalez said “I was a little nervous coming into this (first round) match. I didn't practice much on clay. I'm happy to have won comfortably in straight sets but I expect a tough match tomorrow against Ramirez Hidalgo - he's a good player on clay."

Ramirez Hidalgo came through qualifying before defeating Romania’s Victor Crivoi 6-4, 6-2.
