Fernando Gonzalez begins his hunt for a third straight Vina Del Mar title.
Gonzalez is the king of clay in Vina Del Mar having won the title for the past two years and four times in total. Last year he did not even drop a set all week.
He comes into this year’s tournament as top seed and heavy favourite again after a good run at the Australian Open. Gonzalez reached the fourth round and pushed Andy Roddick all the way before losing in five sets.
His opponent Oscar Hernandez looks to have little chance of making things competitive as he comes in on a six match losing streak going back to October.
Hernandez also lost his only match with Gonzalez, six years ago on clay in Holland.
