Fernando Gonzalez headlines Friday’s quarter-final action against Marcel Granollers.
Gonzalez is hoping to reach his sixth Movistar Open semi-final since 2000. There has been little to suggest that he will not achieve that. He has never faced the Spaniard Granollers who had a disappointing 2009 after reaching a career high ranking of 44 about this time last year. Now he’s outside the top 100.
Granollers always tends to play well in South America and after benefiting from his opponent Martin Vassallo Arguello retiring at one set all in the first round, he ousted Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 6-2.
