Milos Raonic and Marsel Ilhan will meet in first round action today from ATP Indian Wells and this article previews the upcoming match.
Milos Raonic has played at the Masters Series 1000 level before but he is about to make his debut at Indian Wells specifically as the Canadian is a Wild Card recipient at this year's BNP Paribas Open.
Raonic will face Marsel Ilhan of Turkey in a match that is on Friday's Order of Play.
The two players have never met on tour but Raonic is clearly the better pure talent. The recent titlist from ATP San Jose is currently ranked 37th on tour and he appears to be in mid-surge.
Ilhan on the other hand has no significant momentum at this point as the 23 year old enters the match ranked 120th. It's hard to picture Ilhan handling the bombardment of aces that are about to come his way as the 6'5" Raonic is quickly earning recognition as one of the game's top servers.
Raonic is yet to win a match in an ATP Masters Series 1000 event as his only appearance to date is from ATP Toronto 2010 (l. to Hanescu). However that should change before the end of Friday after Raonic and Ilhan meet in a match on Stadium Court number 2 at 11am PT.
