Milos Raonic is into his maiden ATP final at the SAP Open in San Jose.
It's been quite a start to the year for 20 year old Canadian Raonic. Standing at 6'5, he possesses one of the most brutal serves on the tour, regularly pushing the speed gun up to 140mph. He stunned everyone at the Australian Open. Beginning the tournament ranked outside the top 150, his run to the fourth round, beating world number ten Mikhail Youzhny along the way was one of the stories of the tournament.
He has the game to go far but many still wondered whether Raonic was just another one tournament wonder. However he's been on song this week in San Jose, stunning fourth seed Xavier Malisse in round one before easing past James Blake and fellow young gun Ricardo Berankis.
He was set for a fascinating semi-final duel with Gael Monfils but the second seed had to pull out with a wrist injury which has been plaguing him since the Aussie Open.
"We decided to stop for between four and six weeks," a dejected Monfils told the press. "It's been a month and a half that I've had this pain. I can’t hit my backhand. I tried, but my backhand is very soft. I have a better backhand than I showed here — more powerful."
