The Canadian was tipped for the final at the Gerry Weber Open this week however he'll have to settle for a quarterfinal showing.
Milos Raonic is out of the 2011 Gerry Weber Open perhaps a couple rounds before he should have been eliminated as the hard-serving Canadian looked great to make the final at the 250 level event in Halle, Germany.
However Philipp Petzschner had different plans on Friday as the German, perhaps motivated in front of a home crowd, took a three set victory off of Raonic with the scoring ending 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
While Raonic won a couple matches in the Halle draw overall his quarterfinal appearance has to be given a failing grade at the Gerry Weber Open. Raonic, capable of serving up the aces in bunches, appears to be well suited for grass and when Roger Federer pulled out of the tournament on Monday, the Canadian appeared to have a solid chance to challenge for the title.
Raonic remains dangerous in the Wimbledon draw however the 20 year old could also go through plenty of growing pains as he continues to improve.
Next up for Petzschner in Halle is the winner between Viktor Troicki and Tomas Berdych with the Czech player having won the first set already.
